How a BornHire engagement works, from first call to signed offer
A plain account of what happens when you work with the practice: the first conversation, the plan, the weekly rhythm, and how we know the work is done.
People often ask us what working with BornHire actually looks like, week to week. It is a fair question. “Career support” can mean anything from a single CV review to years of coaching, so here is an honest account of how an engagement runs.
It starts with thirty minutes
Every engagement begins with a first conversation. It lasts thirty minutes, there is no fee, and there is no obligation to continue. We use it to understand three things: where you are now, where you would rather be, and what has been getting in the way.
We will ask about your work, your studies, the roles you have applied for, and the ones you have been avoiding. We will also tell you what we see. Sometimes the honest answer is that you do not need us, and we will say so.
Then we agree a plan, in writing
If we both want to continue, we write down what we will do together before any work begins. A typical plan covers:
- The target. The kinds of roles, organisations, and locations worth your energy, and the ones that are not.
- The materials. Your CV, your LinkedIn profile, and the core story you tell about yourself, sharpened until they read as you on your best day.
- The market map. The organisations we will research for you, including those hiring quietly rather than advertising.
- The rhythm. How often we speak, how you prefer to hear from us, and what you will own versus what we will carry.
Nothing about the plan is fixed. Searches change shape, and the plan changes with them.
The weekly rhythm
Once the work is under way, most weeks follow a similar pattern. We bring you new openings with our read on each one. We draft and tailor applications with you, and you decide what goes out. When replies arrive, we help you interpret them and shape your response. When an interview is booked, we prepare you for the room: the organisation, the people, the likely questions, and the ones worth asking back.
Between our conversations, the work continues. Our platform keeps track of every application, every reply, and every deadline, so nothing slips while you get on with your life.
Two rules that never bend
The first is that nothing goes out under your name unless you send it. We draft, research, and advise, but you remain the author of your own search.
The second is that every action is recorded. If you ever want to know what was done on your behalf, when, and why, we will show you in full.
How we know we are done
An engagement ends when you have made a decision you are glad of. Usually that means an offer you have accepted, negotiated well, and understood properly. Sometimes it means deciding to stay where you are, with a clearer view of why. Either way, we would rather you leave with a good decision than a fast one.
If you would like to see whether this could work for you, the first step is the same for everyone: a thirty minute conversation.
